Engr. Enoch Amakiri J. George: A Celebration of Engineering Excellence at 90
Port Harcourt, Friday 8 th October, 2021
All is now set for the celebration of a Nigerian Engineering icon, Engr. Enoch
Amakiri Job George who turned 90 years in March 2020, but could not be
celebrated due to the outbreak of COVID 19 at the time. The event is being
organized by The Enoch George Committee of Friends to highlight his
contributions to engineering excellence.
A Nigerian citizen of Rivers State extraction, Engr. Enoch George took part in the
design of several modern highways in the United Kingdom. A pioneer of Nigerian
Content Development policy, Enoch George was the first Chief Estate Engineer of
the then College of Science & Technology, now Rivers State University, Nkpolu
Port Harcourt and helped lay the foundation on which the university is built
today.
As part of the activities, there will be a Public Presentation of the Book ENGR.
ENOCH AMAKIRI J. GEORGE: AN AFRICAN ENGINEERING GIANT edited by Charles
OGAN. This will be followed by a Lecture titled: ENGR. ENOCH GEORGE:
ENGINEERING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT to be delivered by Professor
Joseph Ajienka, (FNSE, FAEngr.), Former Vice Chancellor, University of Port
Harcourt. The event will take place on Wednesday 13th October, 2021 at the
Amphitheatre of Rivers State University, Nkpolu, Port Harcourt by 12. Noon.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor S.N. Okogbule will Chair the
occasion, while His Royal Highness King T.E. Opuiyo-Ogube, Perekune Kingoli 1,
Amanyanabo of Kirike Kingdom is Royal Father of the day. The celebration will be
rounded off with a Special Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 17th October, 2021 at
St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, George Ama, Okrika at 10.00 AM. The Bishop,
Diocese of Okrika Rt. Revd. Enoch Atuboyedia will preside at the service.
