A worthy son of Ogu Kingdom.

Chief Senator George T. Sekibo CON is a grass root mobilizer and a friend to widows and the needy in his Senatorial District and beyond. The prayers of the widows, orphans and the less-privileged have actually accelerated his political advancement. Through his untiring efforts, some developmental projects including sand reclamation were attracted to Ogu Community to complement what was earlier started by Late Chief Melford Obene Okilo the former Governor of Old Rivers State. Such is the man on whose behalf we are proud of.

Ogu people have followed with keen interest his contributions on the floor of the lower and upper chambers. He is indeed a worthy ambassador and we are very proud of him.

Today, Ogu people are proud of their illustrious son with a title of IGO ALABO (The Eagle) because of his sound representation, doggedness, and patriotic zeal.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described as shocking and wicked the many cases of uncovered diversion of funds meant for the rehabilitation of dilapidated public schools in the state under the administration of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Chairman of the state PDP, Bro Felix Obuah,  made this observation while reacting to the published list of persons invited by the State Senior Secondary Schools Board for explanations over monies received from the immediate past administration but not used for the projects so awarded and some, collected without project sites.
The state PDP chairman explained that it was more worried that a government that made so much noise about giving the best education the Rivers children could condone such recklessness, and allowed monies earmarked to renovate the schools and provide the right atmosphere for studying frittered away with careless abandon.
While enjoining the state government not to limit its searchlight on the mess in the education sector, Obuah said this is the kind of fraud the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should be going after with a view to recovering the loot's and bringing to book the culprits.
The state PDP chairman, however, regretted that rather than spread its dragnet for such fraudsters to sanitize the society, the anti-graft agency was busy hunting opponents of the All Progressives Congress (APC), innocent citizens, most of whom have spent the better part of their lives in service to the country.
Notwithstanding the collaboration between those responsible for the parlous state of public schools and the general looting of Rivers State treasury and the anti-corruption agents, the Rivers State Government should not leave any stone unturned in exposing illegalities discovered anywhere in the state under the administration of Amaechi and those behind them no matter the social status of their perpetrators, Obuah urged.
He, therefore, urged all those implicated in the ghost contracts and looting in Rivers State to do the needful, by being ready and willing to refund the stolen funds and save the state further waste of scarce resources on litigations.

Fishermen Cry Out Over Pollution Of Fishing Settlements.

The President, Fishermen Association of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Mr. Michael Wilfred, has raised alarm over the high level of marine pollution which has affected the ecosystem and members of the association in their occupation.
Wilfred, who raised the alarm in a chat with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said the pollution had made fishing difficult for its members and others.
According to him, aquatic life in Port Harcourt and some fishing settlements within Okrika and Ogu/Bolo local government areas have also been affected, thereby making the livelihood of the fisherfolk a great concern.
The president disclosed that his association made frantic efforts and complaints during the last administration in the state, but all to no avail.
He hinted that survival of the fisher folks had become a big challenge due to the marine pollution, stressing that no fish or any other sea animals survive in polluted water.
He also noted with dismay that the marine pollution had also affected the fishes and other species at the mangrove forest, thereby compounding the suffering of the fisher folk in the areas.
Wilfred further disclosed that fishermen at fishing settlements cannot even afford to pay their children’s school fees, build houses for a living or feed their families adequately as a result of the pollution that could not allow them to make a catch adding that their fishing nets have also been damaged.
The association’s president, however, called on the federal, state and co-operate organisations to come to their aid by empowering the fishermen and made efforts to clean-up the areas for an effective and productive fishing expedition.

Ogu Kingdom Monarch Hails Gov. Wike On Road Projects.

The network of roads embarked upon by the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike in his one year in office has been described as monumental.
The Amanyanabo-Elect of Ogu, in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, King Nicholas Ibiebele Nimenibo Loko IX, made the assertion in an interview with The Tide correspondent in Port Harcourt Monday.
King Nimenibo Loko IX said despite the dwindling federal government allocation to the State, Governor Wike prudently ensures that the people of Rivers State benefit from the dividends of good governance and democracy, stressing that he deserved commendation.
According to him, “I am very happy with him and I will want him to keep it up as I appeal to his detractors to allow him to further take the state to a new level” adding that parties will come and go and the elections are over and so there is need for all to join hands with him to move the state forward.
He sued for peace in the state to allow Governor Wike to carry out more developmental projects, describing peace as the panacea for development.
The Ogu monarch also enjoined the contractors handling the Eleme-Woji road to expedite action and ensure its completion before the rainy season sets in, pointing out that it is a major road of commercial activities.
The royal father also used the forum to thank Governor Wike for appointing some illustrious sons of the area into his cabinet including the Commissioner for Sports, Hon Boma Iyaye, the Director-General, Rivers State Liaison Office, Abuja, Mr Vincent Nimieboka, the Special Advisor on Inter-Party Affairs, and Barr Chris Itamunoala, among others, further pledged the unallowed support of the people to the present government in the state.
