COUNCIL BOSS TASKS BOAT OPERATORS ON REVENUE.

Speed boat operators within the waterways of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area in Rivers State, have been enjoined to cooperate with the council in its internal revenue drive.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Mr. Isaac Ibiberebupakabo, made the call when the executives and members of Ikpokiri Ama Community Speed Boat Owners of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Ogu Wednesday.
Ibiberebupakabo said the council was poised to set a revenue base for the local government to survive, especially with the dwindling fortunes of the economy in the country, pointing out that the revenue collected would augment the federal allocation in executing projects as well as day-to-day running of the local government area.
He said that it was disheartening to note that there are no proper revenue sources except the federation account, stressing that the setting up of a taskforce on revenue mobilization would boost the fortunes of the local government to carry out its statutory functions to the people.
According to him, with the little revenue these operators pay, the council would be committed to carry out some developmental projects that would have direct bearing on the people.
The Ogu/Bolo Local Government boss also reiterated the need for all companies and individuals doing business within its area to join hand and move the local government to greater heights while assuring them continued safety and conducive business environment.
Ibiberebupakabo appealed that nobody should see the revenue taskforce as a ploy by the council to further increase their predicaments but a step to generate fund for the local government to grow.
He thanked them for the visit and announced a reduction of the council’s sticker from N5,000 to N2,500 annually, on daily tickets from N100 to N50, while appealing to them to comply and also maintain peace in their settlements .
In their separate speeches, Amiso Igbikimabiebo and Philemon Daju Atamuno thanked the chairman for his maturity and promised to support and cooperate with him.
