Dear Sir,
MALICIOUS AND DEFAMATORY COMMENTS ON PAMO UNIVERSITY OF
MEDICAL SCIENCES.
DEMAND FOR IMMEDIATE RETRACTION AND APOLOGY.
We act as solicitors for Pamo University of Medical
Sciences, hereinafter referred to as our client, and on whose behalf and
instructions, we write this letter.
Our Client has drawn our attention to the malicious and
defamatory statements concerning Pamo University of Medical Sciences which you
made while presenting the 2026 Rivers State Appropriation Act, for the
Governor's assent, today 3rd September, 2026 at the Executive Council Chambers
of the Government House, Port Harcourt, wherein you stated with respect to Pamo
University of Medical Sciences as follows:
- That
the Rivers State House of Assembly Committee considered the proposal of
the sum of ₦6,000,000,000 [Six billion Naira] to Pamo University of
Medical Sciences in the budget presented to the House.
- That
it was found that the Pamo University of Medical Sciences has not been
transparent in the management of the funds allocated to it over the years
and that the state cannot see what exactly has happened to the tax payers'
money allocated to the university.
- That
you were told the University was invited by the House Committee but they
did not come.
- That
the University did not present any record or report to the Rivers State
House of Assembly.
Our Client informed us that contrary to your above
referenced statements, your accusation is totally false and unfounded, and
that, it has never at any time been invited by the Rivers State House of
Assembly or any other body for that matter to defend the funds made available
to it by the Rivers State Government, in fulfilment of the scholarship
obligation to the Rivers State students.
Our Client further informed us that since the beginning of
the scholarship scheme by the Rivers State Government for the benefit of Rivers
State students on scholarship, the University has strictly and judiciously
applied the scholarship funds for the sole purpose for which it was meant.
Our Client therefore feels thoroughly embarrassed, maligned,
and defamed by your statements under reference, particularly to the effect that
the management of the University has not been transparent in the management of
the funds and has been evasive in defending the utilisation of the scholarship
fund.
By your referenced statement, an average person would understand you to mean that Pamo University of Medical Sciences is an irresponsible and fraudulent institution that has not only mismanaged but that has diverted the fund paid to it by the Rivers State Government for the education of the students in that school.
There is no doubt from the foregoing, that your statements
are not only defamatory of our Client, but same were maliciously made.
Therefore, based on the above, our Client has instructed us
to demand the following from you:
- The
immediate retraction of the malicious statements concerning and in
relation to our Client.
- An
apology to our Client for the malicious defamation and sullying of its
integrity.
- The above demands should be met within the next 24 hours upon notification of this letter.
Please be informed, that we have our Client's further instruction to immediately proceed to a court of competent jurisdiction to seek remedies against you, should you fail or refuse to meet the above demands within the above stipulated timeline. This we shall do without any further reference to you.
