PUMS HAS SET OUT WHY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR DID NOT HONOUR THE RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY'S INVITATION.

What happened:

- The Speaker publicly claimed the University mismanaged scholarship funds. The University rejected this, asked for a withdrawal and apology, and got neither.

- An ad hoc committee was set up on 3 Sept 2026. The University says its representative, sent on 16 Sept, was refused audience and his documents were not accepted.

- The University went to court. While the matter was pending, the Assembly issued a warrant for the Vice Chancellor's arrest on 25 Sept 2026.

The University's position:

- PUMS is a private institution, and no funds are appropriated directly to it.

- The Ministry of Education supervises the scholarship scheme and holds all the records.

- The University says it has fulfilled every obligation in the Memorandum of Understanding.

Why it matters:

- About 600 Rivers State scholarship students are affected.

- For the past 4 months, PUMS has kept them on campus, covering tuition, feeding and accommodation despite outstanding fees.

- Rivers State students have graduated in Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, and more. All programmes are fully accredited.

PUMS says it stays committed to the students and to the people of Rivers State.
