SPEECH BY JOY CHIOMA GABRIEL of Government Girls Secondary School, Oromenike Opposing the motion: “Curbing Plastic Pollution Begins With Individual Choices, Not Government Failures.”
Joy Chioma Gabriel, representing Government Girls Secondary School Oromenike, argued against the motion that "Curbing plastic pollution begins with individual choices, not government failures." She stated that while individual actions matter, the primary responsibility lies with the government and large corporations. She highlighted that major companies like NestlĂ© and Coca-Cola are among the top producers of plastic waste, and the government often supports rather than regulates them. Without strong policies, corporate accountability, and enforcement, individual efforts will have little impact. She concluded that real change must start from the top—with government action and regulation.
