IMMIGRATION PLAYS STRATEGIC ROLE IN NATION BUILDING – PROF. WORIKA

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, has emphasized the critical role played by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in nation-building.

Prof. Worika noted that the strategic position of the Immigration Service in securing the nation’s borders is vital to ensuring national peace and security. He made this remark while receiving the new Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Rivers State Command, CIS Shehu Umar, and the management team of the Nigerian Immigration Training School, Ahoada (NITSA), during a courtesy visit on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

He assured the State Command of the unwavering support of Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the Administrator of Rivers State, towards all security and paramilitary agencies, affirming the government's commitment to strengthening law enforcement and maintaining state security.

Prof. Worika commended the Immigration Service for its collaboration with other security agencies in upholding law and order. He encouraged the team to continue their positive contributions to the development of the state.

Addressing concerns on recruitment, the SSG reiterated the state government's support for encouraging Rivers citizens to enlist in the Immigration Service and other sister agencies, recognizing it as a pathway to service and national development.

In his remarks, CIS Shehu Umar, Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Rivers State Command, and Commandant of NITSA, expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government for its continued support to both the command and the training school.

He highlighted the significance of NITSA as the only immigration training institution in the entire South-South geopolitical zone, dedicated to the manpower development of junior cadets since its establishment in 2001.
